Non-ferrous metals contain no iron and are not magnetic. They are worth more per pound than steel, and both aluminum and copper can be recycled again and again without losing their properties, using far less energy than producing new metal from ore.
Aluminum
What it is: a light, corrosion-resistant metal used wherever strength without weight matters, from solar panel frames to computer heat sinks.
Where we recover it:
- Solar panel frames, removed before panels go onto our Solar 4.0 line
- Aluminum chassis parts, bays and brackets
- Display and equipment frames
Applications for recycled aluminum: secondary smelters remelt it into ingot for automotive castings (engine blocks, wheels and housings), extrusions for building products and new solar panel frames, and sheet for appliances and equipment.
Copper
What it is: the standard metal for carrying electricity, found in almost every cable and electronic device.
Where we recover it:
- Power cords, network cables
- Solar panel junction box cables and connectors
- Transformers, coils and motors
Applications for recycled copper: refiners and mills turn it into wire rod for new electrical wire and cable, copper tube for plumbing and HVAC, and brass and bronze for fittings, valves and connectors.
